Today we carry on with photos from the RWB reveal, but before we get to that I want to extend a big thanks to Tunerworks for sharing the links to Parts 1 and 2 on their Facebook page! To anyone who followed the links and is checking out the blog for the first time, welcome!
The photos today start following the unveiling of the car. At this point we had gotten the opportunity to look over RWB YYC and now it was time to get photos with and autographs from Nakai himself, as well as just hang out with friends and admire all of the cars which had been brought out for the event.
In no time Nakai was surrounded by people, constantly posing for photos and signing all sorts of items.
I saw Hot Wheels (Porsches, naturally), Need for Speed games, shirts, phones, a camera, and a Porsche coffee table book all get his signature, among other things.
Porsche model…good choice.
For the event a number of commemorative shirts were printed in order to raise money to cover medical expenses for a local family’s young son. Quite a lot of them ended up being signed, mine included. They were great souvenirs and were for a very good cause.
Dom had his camera to capture moments from the day and got some very good footage of the car during its initial drive. I can’t wait to see more of it!
Those who read part one will have seen this photo already. I was fortunate enough to not just have one of the charity t-shirts signed as mentioned, but also the Focus! I asked Nakai if he’d be so kind as to sign the car and he was all for it. “Bring it around, I’ll be right here!” he said.
I am super proud of this. The following day I wrapped the trim panel in paint protection film (PPF) to preserve the signature, so I don’t need to worry about it now.
The funny thing is, Mario and I had the exact same idea without discussing it at all. We had both hoped to get our cars signed, on the same piece! Later in the day Nakai signed the delete panel on the back of Mario’s ST.
The requests for signatures showed no signs of slowing.
Nakai-san is someone who I really admire in the industry and the chance to meet him meant an incredible amount to me. At the risk of going on about this signature just a bit too much, it means an awful lot to me because it’ll be a continual reminder of the day I met one of my heroes – and it should also be a cool little detail on the car which only certain people will ‘understand’.
Once the crowd cleared a little bit I moved the Focus back to its parking spot and decided to wander around to grab some more photos. Spotted some of LOWCALS’ cars…
…and grabbed this group photo of the guys themselves.
I had no idea what to expect in terms of crowds but fortunately it was pretty manageable that day. I was worried that getting clear shots of the car would be tricky but when it was all said and done I had managed to get a good number.
The colour, for those wondering, is Porsche’s Grey Black I believe.
Back outside, autographs continued to be given. Now it was Dom’s turn.
A little later on in the day some more of the guys arrived, including Kanji with (most of) his BRZ. This thing should be fully back together soon with its new look for the season…or at least I hope so. Driven is getting closer and closer! Haha
With these few additional shots of the car, that’s it for today. Part 4 will be the final post recounting the afternoon and I’ll try to get that live in the next few days, so please stay tuned!
